Overview

MATCHDAY helps people find and join local pickup games, soccer, basketball, tennis, volleyball, padel, book courts and venues, build a player profile with skill ratings, and manage teams. It's part social network, part booking platform for amateur sport.

The challenge

Amateur sport is fragmented across group chats and spreadsheets. The client wanted one place to discover nearby games with open spots, book venues by the hour, and build trust between strangers through skill ratings and reputation, all location-aware and easy to join on the fly.

Our solution

We built MATCHDAY in React Native with a map- and list-based discovery of nearby games showing spots left, skill level, and cost. Players join with one tap and pay their share, organizers create games and book courts with real-time availability, and a player profile tracks skill ratings, badges, win rate, and teams. A teams layer manages rosters and upcoming fixtures with RSVPs.

Hard problems we solved

Geospatial discovery that ranks games by distance, time, and skill fit required PostGIS queries tuned for speed. Split payments across strangers and payouts to venues used Stripe Connect with careful edge-case handling for cancellations and no-shows.

Results & impact

MATCHDAY replaced scattered group chats with a single, trustworthy home for pickup sport, discover, join, pay, and book in a few taps, with skill ratings that help strangers play together confidently.
