Overview

ARENA is a premium multi-sport app combining live streaming, real-time scores, deep match stats, highlights, and team following across soccer, NBA, NFL, F1, and tennis. It's a broadcast-grade fan experience with low-latency video and a live second-screen layer.

The challenge

Live sports is the most demanding content there is: streams must start fast and stay low-latency, scores and stats must update in real time across many concurrent matches, and the whole thing has to stay smooth during traffic spikes when everyone tunes in at kickoff. The client wanted a premium, dense-but-legible experience.

Our solution

We built ARENA in React Native with a native, low-latency HLS video layer supporting multi-camera angles, live chat, and Chromecast. A real-time data pipeline ingests scores, stats, and events from a sports-data provider and pushes them to a live Match Center with possession, shots, key events, timelines, and lineups. A highlights feed and a My Teams hub with fixtures and reminders keep fans engaged between matches.

Hard problems we solved

Keeping video low-latency while fanning out real-time stats to thousands of concurrent viewers meant a Kafka-based pipeline and WebSocket fan-out designed for kickoff spikes. Multi-camera switching and casting required native player integration, and we load-tested for peak concurrency before launch.

Results & impact

ARENA delivered a broadcast-grade fan experience, fast live video, a rich real-time Match Center, and personalized team following, engineered to stay smooth exactly when it matters most: live, at scale.
