Overview

Rally is a Slack-class team collaboration app: organized channels, direct messages, threaded conversations, and live audio/video huddles with screen sharing. It brings focused, real-time team communication to mobile with the polish of a desktop-first tool.

The challenge

Team chat is deceptively hard on mobile: messages must sync instantly and reliably, threads and channels have to stay organized, and live huddles need dependable audio/video with screen sharing, all while feeling fast and calm rather than noisy. The client wanted a genuinely mobile-first collaboration experience, not a shrunken desktop app.

Our solution

We built Rally in React Native with a real-time messaging core (WebSocket) for channels, DMs, threads, reactions, and rich content including code snippets and image previews. Live huddles use WebRTC for group audio/video with screen sharing and recording, and a dedicated Threads view surfaces replies to conversations users follow. Presence, typing, and read state keep everything in sync across devices.

Hard problems we solved

Instant, reliable message sync with correct ordering and offline catch-up required an event-sourced store and careful conflict handling. Group huddles with screen sharing on mobile pushed us deep into WebRTC and an SFU to keep quality high and battery drain low.

Results & impact

Rally delivered focused, real-time team collaboration built for mobile from the ground up, organized channels and threads plus dependable huddles, so distributed teams stay in sync from their phones.
